Digital governance: presenting a solution to consultation fatigue
Many people in regions talk about consultation fatigue. Technology is one low cost, wide access solution to this issue that allows communities to better communicate their wants and needs with government.
Last year, in partnership with global I.T. company SAP, the Regional Australia Institute explored this issue and suggested solutions in a submission to the Australian Government’s Sustainability transitions in existing cites inquiry.
Primarily, the submission looked at the concept of digital governance and how an online platform allowing the sharing of data and information between government, industry and communities could be extremely useful in regional development and decision making.
Recently, the RAI’s General Manager of Policy and Research, Kim Houghton, and SAP Australia’s Natalie Kenny were given the opportunity to present the submission to a public hearing at Parliament House.
The RAI’s partnership with SAP has been valuable to help understand the technology capacity and limitations in bringing this sort of capability to regions, as well as exploring new ways that regions can enhance decision-making.
