NBN Network in Alice Springs to generate more jobs
New research has found that access to services over the nbn™ network is projected to generate up to 130 new businesses and up to 780 additional digital jobs in Alice Springs and surrounding areas by 2021.
Commissioned by NBN Co, the Regional Australia Institute (RAI) compiled the Alice Springs Business Growth Opportunities report from AlphaBeta’s first national economic and social study of the impact of the nbn™ access network.
RAI General Manager of Research and Policy, Dr Kim Houghton was in Alice Springs to launch the new report.
The report highlights the region’s high concentration of professional workers (25 percent), university qualified workers (22 percent) and adult learners (7 percent) indicating it is in a strong position to leverage its skilled workforce and access to fast broadband to create new business opportunities.
The innovation ranking for Alice Springs was reported as one of the top scores in the Northern Territory (fourth out of 17 Local Government Areas), which signals a supportive business environment willing to build on traditional industries.
