Regional Australia Institute appoints co-CEO team
The Regional Australia Institute (RAI) has today announced a new direction with the appointment of a co-CEO team in Ms Liz Ritchie and Dr Kim Houghton, both respective leaders within the organisation and Australia.
RAI Chairman Mal Peters said the Board believes the co-CEO model will provide the RAI with even greater reach to pursue its mission to enhance the lives of those living in regional Australia.
“Both Dr Kim Houghton and Ms Liz Ritchie bring great depth of expertise and knowledge, as well as a diverse and complementary skill base to the shared role,” Mr Peters said.
The RAI is in the business of thought leadership and we are proud to foster a culture that is creative, adaptable and inclusive,” he concluded.
Kim Houghton was most recently the General Manager Policy and Research and has been with the RAI for three years. His career has spanned over 25 years of in-depth social and economic modelling and regional development research. For this reason, he is one of Australia’s eminent figures in regional policy design.
“The RAI has collaboration in its DNA and we are committed to furthering our cause to ensure better outcomes for regional Australians,” Dr Houghton said.
Liz Ritchie joined the RAI in August last year and her experience as a business leader and change agent combined with her strategic stakeholder engagement has been evidenced through her time with Westpac and the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA).
“This leadership model is the right design for the RAI. We are innovative and agile by our very nature and we believe this will enable the RAI to embark on its new strategic priorities in a comprehensive and thoughtful way,” Ms Ritchie said.
“We have now been around for six years, and we are evolving. Our new shared vision will see us expand our reach around the country through our targeted people strategy which begins this year with our Regions Rising Events Series and the continuation of the Intergovernmental Shared Inquiry Program 2019,” Liz Ritchie said.
The RAI was founded in 2012 and remains Australia’s only independent think-tank dedicated to regional issues. It provides evidence-based research to decision makers.
Dr Houghton said the RAI has promoted the very essence of collaboration as a critical pathway to achieve better outcomes amongst regional stakeholders. RAI will now foster this process in its own organisational design.
Kim Houghton and Liz Ritchie will replace outgoing CEO, Jack Archer, who will leave the RAI on 5 February.
