Regions key to our prosperity
A new report from the Regional Australia Institute has been released and is urging policymakers to develop strategies to build the capacity of regional cities. Australia’s regional cities are resilient, productive, diverse and moving towards a services-led economic future away from mining, agriculture and manufacturing – contrary to popular perceptions.
Jack Archer, RAI’s CEO, has said public debate about Australia’s regions has been “too negative” and policy responses by government “too reactive” which undermines the importance and potential of regions to the national economy.
“The regions are not victims of change and unable to adapt to change, but they need the policy tools to ensure that change becomes something to embrace, not fear” he told The Australian.
