Applications for nbn® co. Innovate Grant with $125,000 in prize money for regional businesses close 20 November

November 11 2022

Innovative regional businesses and individuals have until 20 November for their chance to share in $125,000 in cash, as part of the Innovate grant program, a collaboration between nbn® Co. and the Regional Australia Institute (RAI).

Innovate is looking for regional, rural and remote Australians harnessing the benefits of the nbn® network to develop products and solutions that improve digital participation, productivity or social outcomes.

This is the third year the Regional Australia Institute (RAI) has partnered with the nbn® co. on the highly popular program.

“Innovate helps regionally-based businesses and individuals transform their ideas into game-changing innovations and lift the digital capability of people and businesses across regional Australia,” RAI CEO Liz Ritchie said.

Grants are available across seven categories: Agriculture, Arts, Education, Health, Indigenous Business, Tourism, and Women in Regional Business.

Ms Ritchie said increased technology continued to grow the potential of existing and emerging regional businesses.

“In 2022, thanks to enhanced connectivity made possible by nbn® co, business really can be done from almost anywhere, opening up the opportunity for regional, rural and remote entrepreneurs to make their business dreams a reality.”

The 2021 Innovate Health category winner, was Gunnedah-based speech pathologist, Kylie Toynton, who operates Language for Life, a program delivering speech pathology services to regional families.

During her 20 years as a rural speech pathology, Kylie witnessed families waiting months for an assessment and having to travel up to 300 kilometres for a speech therapy session. Kylie said not only did this place unnecessary stress on the family, but it also meant the child wasn’t receiving the help they needed when they needed it. Kylie is using her nbn® co. Innovate grant to progress the development of the online delivery of the Language for Life platform and to include other health and medical professionals on the platform.

The winner in each winner receives $15,000. The overall Innovate with nbn® Champion will be awarded an additional $20,000 grant to help take their idea to the next level.
