Professional workers should take a look at job opportunities in Tasmania, with Hobart the only state capital in the country where vacancy rates are growing.
Regional Australia Institute (RAI) co-CEO Dr Kim Houghton says the latest job vacancy figures show professional roles such as doctors, nurses, finance workers, human resource managers, engineers, educational professionals, sales and marketing managers, and media professionals are in demand across Tasmania – more than any other sector.
“Tasmania is growing and with this transformation comes boundless opportunities to rethink what regional Australia will look like in the future and the direction we want it to take,” Dr Houghton said.
“Like many parts of regional Australia, Tasmania has significant job opportunities, and we know communities are working locally to come up with solutions to fill these roles.
“Across the country, regional job vacancy rates are growing and Tasmania is no different, with Launceston and Northeast Tasmania seeing a 27.2% increase in average monthly advertisements since September last year,” Dr Houghton said.
Today, the RAI is hosting the Premier of Tasmania, The Hon. Will Hodgman, as well as senior industry leaders at a roundtable in Hobart as part of its national roadshow, Regions Rising 2019 – with Population, Migration and Jobs on the agenda.
RAI co-CEO Liz Ritchie says Tasmania is also becoming a popular destination for migrants to call their home, with just over 2,600 moving to the Apple Isle last year.
“When you look at the Australian born mobility figures for Tasmania over the same period, that is slightly lower at around 2,400,” Ms Ritchie said.
“We know that people choose to move to a location for a number of reasons, with work opportunities a major consideration. We also know that a location’s liveability factor is also an important driver.
“When you look at the Tasmanian Government’s latest advertising campaign – Come Down for Air – it’s very easy to see why people would like to visit and hopefully move to this beautiful state,” Ms Ritchie said.
