Regional Australia has been changing for some time now. Our country communities are getting bigger, more jobs than ever before are on offer, and many of the industries of the future will be based in our regions.
Regional job vacancies remained steady at 91,000 in August 2023 with a 0.8 per cent increase from July. The latest level of vacancies reflects a slight 0.3 per cent decrease compared to the same period a year earlier.

We bring together our RAA Members for exclusive, quarterly Alliance meetings hosted by the RAI. These sessions provide opportunities to connect with relevant Government Ministers, regional leaders, and prominent industry voices.
The past year was not easy in Australia and around the world, with inflationary pressures, rising interest rates, and tight rental and housing markets placing pressure on household budgets. Job vacancy figures continued to hit record highs both regionally, and in our cities, with many regions across Australia competing for the same talent.
The RAI has updated and expanded our original research using data from the 2021 Census. The new report offers an overview of population flows between capital cities and regional Australia delves deeper into millennials' migration patterns and the overseas-born population.
Many of Australia’s newly arrived overseas migrants are living in the regions, according to the latest census data from the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
